Bill Schawbel, CEO of Schawbel Companies, was the Founder and CEO of The Schawbel Corporation, a business formed in 1981 through the acquisition of two divisions from The Gillette Company. Bill sold The Schawbel Corporation in 2014 along with its successful ThermaCELL Mosquito Repellent business and retained ThermaCELL Heated Products under Schawbel Technologies LLC. In July of 2017, Heat Factory USA licensed the ThermaCELL Heated Products business along with its patented technology.
Prior to founding The Schawbel Corporation, Bill held senior management positions with The Gillette Company, including President of Gillette - Japan and President of Braun North America. His marketing and management experience includes significant contributions to many of Gillette’s divisions within the United States and internationally, with particular success in the areas of acquisitions and new business development.
Over the past thirty-seven years, Bill created and sold over thirty companies covering a wide array of consumer products in personal care, housewares, hardware, food and drug, and pest control. He has built relationships with quality offshore manufacturers and, through his University of Pennsylvania and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) connections, a broad and deep network of industry experts.
Bill’s in depth knowledge and relationships in the consumer products market allow for real time assessment of opportunities with optimal results. His experience and knowledge base is a critical competitive factor in the success of the Schawbel consulting practice.
As a graduate of the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, Bill served his alma mater as a Trustee, Chair of the Board of Overseers for the School of Veterinary Medicine, and Co-Chair of the James Brister Society (Penn's Diversity Board).
Bill is an alumnus of the Boston Latin School where he has served as President of the School’s Foundation and chaired its Capital Campaign Committee. His passions related to public education, diversity, and entrepreneurship have kept him involved in Junior Achievement for over fifty years both at the local chapter level as past chair of Junior Achievement of Northern New England and internationally as board member of Junior Achievement International. He was a founding member of the Center for Women & Enterprise, an organization that builds successful businesses through education and training and EdVestors, a school improvement organization that combines strategic philanthropy, education expertise, and implementation support to help schools create the conditions for school change.
In addition, Bill was a vice-chair of the Boston Museum of Science along with engineering projects for their facilities that required collaboration with global companies such as General Electric Company and Johnson Controls, Inc.Bill has served in the military as a Captain in the U.S. Army.
Veronica Zsolcsak, President of Schawbel Group, LLC, has over forty years of financial and business operations experience, including positions as Chief Financial and Operations Officer for publicly held corporations. Her previous industry experience includes manufacturing, software services, consulting, and healthcare services.
Prior to joining Schawbel, Veronica was CFO and Treasurer for Health Gate Data Corp.. She also held similar positions at Infinium, Inc. and Renaissance Worldwide, Inc., Town & Country Corporation, and DRI/McGraw-Hill. Earlier in her career, she held senior financial positions at Wang Laboratories and Digital Equipment Corporation building on her manufacturing and financial experience at General Tire and Rubber Company. Veronica has extensive experience in all aspects of business strategic planning, tactical implementation, operations, and finance. She recognizes that the ever-changing competitive market environment requires continuous innovations and adaptations of companies along with solid and sound leadership skills. She has been able to provide clarity and influence positive change in her various positions.
Over the past five years, she led the product development efforts for the ThermaCELL Heated Products line at Schawbel and is named on forty-two patent filings, which reflect her creativity and ability to lead product development activities. She also orchestrated the recent licensing agreement with Heat Factory USA for this product line.
As President of Schawbel Group, she oversees the consumer consulting business where she has managed over fifty client projects that have covered companies ranging in size from start-ups to $14 billion in revenue through Schawbel’s globally positioned consulting organization. She is responsible for the selection of resources on projects, development of client contracts, and review and sign off on all completed projects.
Veronica earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Economics from Waynesburg University and a Master’s in Business Administration from Western New England University. Veronica is a member and regional head of Adam Global, a network of independent firms providing corporate services. She is also an advisory board member for Fitchburg University’s Business Administration Department and sits on their CS and CIS Industry Board. She has also attended the Kellogg Women’s Director Development Program at Northwestern University.
Julie Furrier has more than twenty-five years of experience in the areas of accounting and finance and is currently the Controller of the Schawbel Companies. Julie has served as the Chief Financial Officer or Controller for privately owned and publicly traded companies. Past affiliations include The Boston Company Advisors, Inc., Town & Country Corporation, BioSafe International, Town & Country Fine Jewelry Group, L.G. Balfour Company, HealthGate Data Corp., Boston Microsystems, Flightview, Modular Genetics and aPriori Technologies. Her areas of expertise include financial reporting, cash flow management, financial modeling and analysis, policy and process development and improvement, as well as transactional accounting. Julie has worked with companies to negotiate and secure private funding including implementation and on-going support of asset based lending arrangements, as well as negotiation and management of lending agreements with commercial lenders.
Beyond traditional accounting skills, Julie also has experience in many aspects of human resource management and handles staffing and benefits as well as corporate insurance and compliance matters for many of her client companies. Julie’s experience includes companies in a variety of sizes and industries including consumer products, software sales and development, biotech, manufacturing, and professional services. This broad experience, across a variety of small and medium size companies has provided her the skills to range from gradual transitions to scalable financial growth.
Julie holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accountancy from Bentley University and is a Certified Public Accountant licensed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. She is a Notary Public authorized by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Julie served as Treasurer of the United Brachial Plexus Network, a nonprofit organization that provides support to those affected by brachial plexus injuries. She also serves on the Advisory Counsel of the Fitchburg University Business Department.
Bill has over thirty years’ experience leading businesses in the nonprofit sector. He is well versed in fund raising techniques, donor retention programs, and streamlining operations for nonprofits.
Bill served as President of the Eastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island chapters Junior Achievement (JA) and as Corporate Senior Vice President of JA Worldwide. During his career with JA, Bill turned around operations to yield a surplus, built organizational liaisons with government and the private sectors, and increased the number of corporate donors by 500% and non-corporate donors by 1000%. This yielded additional income of $2.5 million annually. The extra funds allowed for additional students to participate in JA programs and with these successes, allowed for recruitment of business savvy individuals who further strengthen the organization. He was also instrumental in the nationwide development and launch of JA web based educational programs.
Earlier in his career, Bill gathered national recognition for his creativity, development, and delivering of programs for Junior Achievement. Bill was a member of the JA organization while in High School in New Britain, Connecticut and, while in college, accepted his first full-time position as their Program Manager for Western Connecticut. In this role, Bill focused on the delivery of programs for disadvantaged children. Then selected as the Executive Director of JA in Hartford, Connecticut, Bill continued to expand and develop JA programs throughout Central Connecticut. Bill’s tenure in Hartford had him directly involved with one of the nation’s best nonprofit Board of Directors.
Bill provided the same leadership to organizations such as the Markman Children’s Program and at the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth where he served as Assistant Chancellor of the Advancement office.
Bill’s many achievements have been recognized both in and out of Junior Achievement. Prior to his retirement, the Boston Celtics recognized Bill, an avid New England sports fan, as a “Heroes Among Us” for his exemplary efforts and invaluable contributions to the youth of Greater Boston.
Bill holds an undergraduate degree from Central Connecticut State University.
For more than thirty years, Nan has created branding, original design, marketing strategy and communications for consumer and B2B clients. Together with her company, Adrenaline Design, she partners with the Schawbel Group to provide creative work that gets results.
Since April 2000, Adrenaline has provided consumer products branding expertise for verticals including electronics, baby, toy and game, gifts, sporting goods, beer, home and garden, pets, entertainment and more. B2B clients include software, advertising agencies and healthcare. Their client base ranges from Fortune 500 firms, including Hasbro, Starbucks and Bose, to smaller privately-held firms and startups.
Nan leads her four-person team designing logos, branding and style guides, packaging design, point of sale, print design, advertising, social media, and event graphics. Adrenaline’s staff write and edit copy for a wide range of applications, including naming, taglines, sell copy, non-profit pitches and case statements, blog and social media posts, and product instructions. They create expert photo retouching, illustration and product renderings. Nan also provides clients with Google analytics management, Facebook and Instagram advertising guidance, and Squarespace expertise.
Because Nan often manages external services like photographers, web developers, PR firms and printers—all aspects of a client's marketing program and brand identity are cohesively executed.
Prior to founding Adrenaline, Nan was Director of Creative Services at Hasbro where she managed sixty new and refreshed product introductions annually, and a $2MM dollar out-sourcing budget. Nan worked extensively co-creating product designs with licensors including Disney, Lucasfilm and Marvel, among many. Her team branded Bop It. They revived sales for Trivial Pursuit, Clue and Scrabble with updated branding. Designs for Hasbro’s collectible Monopoly Millennium fueled sales of 2 million games.
Nan graduated magna cum laude from the University of Connecticut with a BS in Design and Resource Management. A nature lover, Nan successfully advocated for protecting thousands of acres of forest as part of a committee planning public land management for Massachusetts. Currently Nan volunteers as a Nature Guide (in training) with MA Audubon, where she recently led maple sugaring tours.
Timothy Morck, PhD is Founder and President of Spectrum Nutrition, LLC, a consulting firm that provides expertise in nutrition-related basic/clinical research, product development, regulatory & public policy and global scientific affairs. Dr. Morck’s career includes clinical nutrition practice, research, and medical school faculty appointments (University of Kansas Medical Center, Eastern Virginia Medical School, VA Medical Center, Hampton, Virginia), scientific association management (ILSI-North America), entrepreneurial personalized nutrition start-ups (MenuDirect Corp. and DSM Personalized Nutrition), and executive and senior management positions at several global food, nutrition and pharmaceutical companies including The Dannon Company, Mead Johnson Nutritionals, Abbott Nutrition, Nestle Health Science and Nestle Corporate Affairs. His unique multidisciplinary perspective integrates scientific affairs and marketing to achieve business objectives, with a passion for personalized approaches that improve nutrition, health, and wellness for individuals, patients, and society. The interplay between the legal, scientific, and regulatory framework surrounding medical foods has been a particularly sharp focus for him.
Tim received a Bachelor of Science in animal science from Penn State University, followed by Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees in nutrition (biochemistry & physiology minors) from Cornell University.
With over thirty-three years’ experience in the consumer product industry, Sanjay considers himself a serial entrepreneur. He is a visionary able to anticipate market trends. In the Indian consumer marketplace, he assists companies of all sizes to anticipate future consumer needs and develop metrics for objective assessment of external and internal situations to use as a basis for sustained change in their business approach. He has guided and facilitated the entry of over fifty foreign companies into India and has helped large organizations such as Satyam Computer Services Limited, Taj Group, and Godrej Group improve their internal business processes. His ability to develop frameworks to improve communications in large organizations has enabled him to act as a catalyst for change in these organizations. He leverages his vast knowledge of both market and internal organizational behavior to contribute to lasting impact on business structures, processes and competencies. Sanjay fits in easily within the business organization and makes change happen by involving, endearing, and encouraging. He is able to develop tailor made contexts and alternate scenario modeling for different business issues.
CBI Netherlands selected Sanjay for their Train the Trainers program where he became one of three Master Trainers. Based on this training, he is qualified to train and consult in helping facilitate trade between Europe and India. He has trained companies under platforms of CII, IEEMA, ELCINA, PHD Chamber, FISME aside of his own firm – Market Insight Consultants (www.marketinsightconsultants.com). Sanjay has a mechanical engineering degree from the University of Roorkee.
Frank Rumpeltin brings extensive executive level experience to the Schawbel consulting division. Frank has more than thirty years of success in a variety of consumer manufacturing businesses from product management and division manager, to President, CEO, Chairman, and Board member. Frank has successfully managed a start-up, turnarounds, plant closures, and consolidations. The breadth of his experience includes global brand management strategies, new product development, engineering, and operations.
Mr. Rumpeltin has had total profit and loss responsibility in organizations that range in size from $150 million to more than $400 million. His involvement in consumer manufacturing businesses includes companies such as G.D. Searle, Bausch & Lomb, and Hasbro where he held worldwide responsibility for the Playskool Division. Frank has managed consumer brands, including Playskool and Barney and he successfully launched the Teletubbies brand in North America. His management oversight and leadership skills range from a start-up with few employees to global businesses with thousands of employees.
Frank holds an undergraduate degree from Lafayette College and a Master of Business Administration from Rutgers University. He was a member of the Advisory Board of the Harvard University School of Public Health, the Board of the Center for Children's Health in Boston, Massachusetts, and the Board of Directors of the Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association.
Ken Thomas is the owner of Global Safety Solutions, an engineering services company specializing in product safety and product certifications. Ken’s areas of experience include project, resource, and operational management. His previous experience working for a certification agency and large manufacturing company has shaped him into a versatile and experienced engineering leader with proven performance in achieving results. Ken has broad work experience with a strong understanding of the design, manufacturing, and certification processes. He has extensive knowledge of safety standards and has participated in the standards writing process. Ken’s solid project management skills and results-driven attitude create operational excellence and peak performance.
Ken earned his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering at the University of Illinois. His professional affiliations include NCE - NARTE Certified Product Safety Engineer, UL Standards Committee membership, NFPA membership, and IEEE Member and Past Officer of the IEEE Product Safety Engineering Society.
